The 2019 Fantasy of Trees is finished. The 2020 Fantasy of Trees will start soon with the purchase of artificial trees on sale. How does one go about buying 45 trees to make a display that is interesting and entertaining? The first task is to get a variety of tree styles, shapes and colours. There are many choices available today. Here are the main characteristics:
1. Heights? 4.5', 5', 6.5' and 7.5' are all available. 6.5' is the typical house tree. Pencil trees are typically tall - in 6.5' and 7' heights - they are tall but thin, so don't dominate the space.
1. Diameter - with the popularity of pencil trees there are now 18", 21", and 25" diameter pencil trees. Then there are slimline at 30" - 36". The standard is 48" and the deluxe is 53" diameter.
3. # of tree tips - 750 and up is common for standard trees 4. types and mix of tree material represented 5. # of lights - 250 LEDs and up 6. flocked (snow-covered) and cashmere (snow-dusted) accents 7. novelty colours - white, black, blue
You can find more details at Bob Villa's site HERE or at Better Homes & Gardens HERE. All of the hardware store sites include tree specifications.
The next task is making sure each tree becomes a beautiful display. Here are the key elements for the decorator/designers:
1. fluffing the branches thoroughly 2. fill it up with ornaments - really fill it up 3. garlands create visual patterns - vertical, horizontal or diagonal 4. tree skirts - no naked down below (!) and make it match the tree 5. tree tops - no tops that point down - that's what makes the trend toward bursts of Christmas 'picks' so enchanting - they point up 6. under the tree displays complete the theme
We have a small selection of samples from the 2019 Fantasy of Trees.
