Marilyn's Photos - Dec 1 2025 - The Most Christmas Cookie time of the year
Christmas is the most cookie time of year. I wonder what makes cookies so beloved at this holiday. There are dozens of types, with the origins dating back to seventh-century Persia. Medieval European biscuits became popular and it never stopped. While Wikipedia has a general sense of the types, it seems that there is likely a complicated route to where we are now. Gingerbread definitely tops the list for associations with Christmas. Shortbreads from Great Britain, Lebkuchen from Germany, Linzer cookies, and the French are known for Macarons - but they’ve broken out of the Christmas association and are available everywhere.
Christmas means Guinness time - Guinness Book of Records. Largest cookie exchange seems to be popular and the competitive area is the largest wedding cookie table. Who would guess. The largest cookie so far is 754 square metres. There are tallest pyramids of cookies and tallest towers of cookies and largest bag of cookies. So many crazy things to think of for cookies.
The snow left yesterday and we’re back to grass, not like this picture. This looks like a January scene to me.
