I don't remember there being a Boys and Girls Club when I was a girl. Yet, it started in 1900, when a local citizens group in Saint John, New Brunswick set up a playground movement. They wanted a safe place for children to play. They were mostly focused on boys from disadvantaged circumstances who had no place to go after school. It was called the Every Day Club. Today they have national programs, scholarships and serve over 200,000 children and youth in 700 clubs across Canada. Perfect for keeping children busy without their parents. But there is a dilemma right now with so many camps and activities unavailable.
I bet there are a lot of parents searching for ideas right now. Here are some at activeforlife: Toy wash - (that's right, they wash their toys) Dress up Camp out Bean bag target toss Toilet paper funnels Cereal necklaces
Of course, one can go out/online and purchase some board games for children. I found these at fatherly.com - descriptions are theirs.
Pie Face is one of those funny board games that keeps everybody cackling and on the edge of their seats. Simply douse the sponge (included in the game) with whip cream, place it on the catapult, and rapidly press the launch button. As you keep pressing, one pie will fly into your opponents face – or yours. Ages: 5+ Players: 2
Watch Ya' Mouth: The name might lead you to think this Kickstarter-funded party game comes with a few bars of soap, but it’s not that risque (assuming you’re playing the family-safe version). If Pie Face was like a visit to the optometrist, this is the follow-up at the dentist. You play the funny board game by reading phrases off the cards while wearing one of the provided plastic “cheek retractor” mouth guards that make it difficult to speak. The goal is the get the group to figure out what the hell you’re trying to say. Expansion packs are available (as is an adult-only version). And the mouth guards are dishwasher safe. That’s key. Ages: 8+ Players: 3-10
Gas Out Game: Here’s a breath of fresh air: Gas Out is a family-friendly card game that uses an electronic fart machine (Guster the Gas Cloud). Without actually letting rip themselves, players throw out numbered cards and press Guster the corresponding number of times (i.e. drop a deuce, press him twice). If he lets one go, everyone laughs. Also, they’re out of the game. The last player to discard while keeping Guster from cutting loose wins. Ages: 5+ Players: 2-6
We're looking at two scenes on a layout from last year's Sacramento convention visit.
