School Lunch Ideas - this was never a topic my mother would have considered. We were given a sandwich with meat or cheese, a dessert square or cake, and an apple every day. This must be a likely a common tradition as you will see many people with sandwiches at the food courts in North America. Is that the most common lunch?A UK office supply company has conducted research and surveys to determine the most common lunchtime meal in 10 countries.
England - soup and sandwich
U.S. - pizza, Coke, Skittles, chocolate ice cream
Germany - currywurst sausages, french fries, apples
Australia - schnitzel, salad and potatoes
Italy - pasta with tuna, olives, tomatoes, salad, bread and espresso
France - ham and butter sandwich, water, and slice of apple pie
Netherlands - cheese sandwiches, apples and grapes
Turkey - spinach and feta flatbread
India - hot dishes hand-delivered to office workers in tiffin wallah - rice and moong dal, peas and potato curry, chicken saagwala, chapati and chai tea
Brazil - BBQ beef and pork stew with rice and coconut water
Japan - bento box or ramen
Mexico - Ceviche
What about us Canadians? sandwiches, soups and salads. One can get a sandwich very readily for lunch with all of our Tim Hortons.
I thought about what is available in the food courts where people gather to eat lunch and there are also offerings of Italian, Japanese, Thai, and Mexican lunches. And definitely the American pizza and the North American burger. A diverse offering for many cultures. I wonder what their kids are getting for lunch each day.
