June 16 2023 - TreeFrogs

I don't remember treefrogs singing this late in the season.  They are singing in the garden close to the house. So close that Millie is growling at them and thinks they should leave.

We are home to two of the seven species in Canada - the Spring Peeper and the Gray Tree frog. They are tiny - only 1.5 to 2 inches - so we are unlikely to see them easily.

Given the they are nocturnal and spend their time up in trees, we are even less likely to see them.  And finally, they have camouflage skills.  It can slowly change colours to match what it’s sitting on to camouflage itself. They vary from gray to green or brown. It’s common for their back to display a mottled colouring, much like lichen.

What a contrast to Fireflies who come out at night and entertain us with their light show.

And there's my picture of my single sighting of a tree frog. This was at Plant Paradise Botanical Gardens in 2016.
