Feb 5 2025 - Shortcuts

Shortcuts used to be a bad thing.  "You can never take away the effort of hard work and discipline and sacrifice."  They were considered immoral, illegal, quick fixes, and so on.

They started out as "the path taken between two places not as long as the ordinary way" i- that was in the mid 1500s.  Or a second definition: "a method or means of doing something more directly and quickly than and often not so thoroughly as by ordinary procedure. a shortcut to success." That one sounds like something in the industrial age.

And in our current times, shortcuts are things we do on computers, with the keyboard and with websites.

How different does this make short cut jokes?   I like the ones that relate to the shortest distance - they are always through a cemetery:

"Hearing a tapping sound he becomes scared and quickens his pace. The tapping gets louder and Jack is now scared out of his
wits. Then he notices a man chiselling a tombstone.

"Thank goodness!" Jack says to the man. "You gave me a fright of my life. Why are you working so late?"

"They spelt my name wrong."

Now for jokes about keyboard shortcuts with a little of life's morality involved:

What's The Donald's favourite keyboard shortcut?
Command Alt Right.

What is Elon Musk's favourite keyboard shortcut?
ctrl + space + x
