I started to think of the Spring Equinox as Stonehenge Day - maybe a few years ago. The website says that there is managed open access today and peopel can get close to the stones but not touch them. There are always some updates on the source of the stones. I guess this is a story of such compelling interest that research is ongoing. It is such a conundrum. There must be scientific evidence that Neolithic people only used stone and wooden tools. So transporting the six-tonne alter stone which originated in norther Scotland 750 km away is a monumental task with an accompanying set of questions. There’s the thought that coastal transport by boat was used, followed by overland transportation utilizing sledges, rollers, prepared pathways, and organized labour.
