Marilyn's Photos - Aug 2 2026 - The Blue Hour in Helsinki
Today Bing's picture is an aerial view of Helsinki during "the blue hour." Lots of blue. Blue hour is the twilight period when the sun is between approximately 4 to 6 degrees below the horizon. The sky takes on deep blue and indigo tones. Helsinki's blue hour is much longer in the summer. And the blue hour in Helsinki yesterday? It went from 9:51 to 10:52. Compare that to Toronto when the blue hour went from 8:40 until 9:13pm. Our blue hour in Grimsby was 2 minutes earlier and went from 8:38 to 9:15pm - a little longer than Toronto's.
There are many entries for photographers on taking blue hour pictures. And then lots of beautiful pictures. Here's one that came up - it looks like a science fiction picture to me. It is Daewangam Park in Ulsan, South Korea. And it has a bridge that looks like it could be in the Guinness Book of Records for something or other.
This is the elevated walkway between the Eaton's Centre and "Simpson's" - whatever Simpson's is now called after Hudson's Bay bought it and then went out of business. This is part of the PATH system that provides underground walkways through the downtown. This is particularly helpful in winter when we don't want to know about the blue hour in the cold.
