We've gotten very automated in the kitchens of the first world - cake mixers, blenders, electric kettles, coffee makers, can openers, and so on. Even the humble potato peeler was reimagined into a speed peeler. Things like saran wrap and tupperware made storage efficient and easy. And it continued with food processors, slow cookers, bread makers, juicers, and so on. And these things are additions to the appliances that made for kitchen efficiency - the dishwasher, fridge, freezer and stove - electric, microwave and convection.
There is so much available today that we don't pay attention to a lot of what's new. We call a lot of the kitchen inventions "gadgets". I guess I would call a "herb infuser" a gadget. And a guard-lock container to keep avocado guacamole green. And this is a visual feast: fruit keg tapping kit. Here it is - a perfect gift for the watermelon maniac.
I found an appliance joke for our current situation.
"There are Apple appliances in every room of my home.
In addition everyone in my household owns an iPhone, iPad or both. We are pretty diligent about keeping all of the devices synchronized with each other. All, except for some reason, the kitchen.
I guess you could say, everything but the kitchen’s synch’d."
