Jan 13 2025 - Over 50? Don't Do This!

All these things to stop doing, or not do after the age of 50.  Some of them are things I had to look up:  Parkour. AARP says:  "the sport involves traversing environmental obstacles by running, climbing or leaping rapidly and efficiently."  That would be a "Bourne to be wild" game. The article goes on to recommending no crowd surfing, and then no collecting owls made of shells.  There are a number of things that start with "Explaining Your Personal Role in..."  One should guess what these might be.  They are most amusing.  One of them finishes the line with "fuelling the rumour that Paul was dead."

For more fun, this is the article HERE

My question is actually about what makes the age of 50 significant as a dividing age - young from old.  The AI Overview, which is now ever-presently intrusive on google,  says turning 50 can be a significant milestone in life that can have many meanings. And then goes on to list various things which are trite, old-fashioned and out-of-date.  I realize that I doubt AI intelligence - my rationale is that it is based on past knowledge and information.  My theory is that AI is stuck in the 1900s. Which half? To be determined.

So I went on my own to find something interesting about the age of 50.  Here are two quotes worthy of repeating:

Victor Hugo: "Forty is the old age of youth; fifty is the youth of old age"
TS Eliot: "The years between fifty and seventy are the hardest. You are always being asked to do things, and yet you are not decrepit enough to turn them down"

Here's the caption for today's photo.  How old is this can of Campbell's soup?
