Dec 12 2024 - How long does it take to run 1200 metres

It is Thursday and we don't have to run in aquafit.  But in Friday classes when it is high intensity training, we usually have to run around the gym at intervals or in the warm-up.  It doesn't seem very far, but I don't really know how far or how long we run for.

There's a headline today about how long should you be able to run rather than how far should you be able to run.  Here's the chart - I noticed how it does not have any information for the over 50 year olds. The Cooper chart is for military personnel - that must be why it seems out of context.  Supposedly a good 2000 metre run is 4:00 minutes for males and 4:40 for females.

if we were to run 800 metres in 4 minutes that would be considered jogging.  That works for me just fine - we're mostly jogging in the gym.  That probably explains why it is quite fun to do.

Maybe that chart is a bit ambitious.  In comparison to the next question- which is how long should you be able to stand on one foot?  This ranges from 43 seconds for 18 to 39 year olds to 18 to 19 seconds for 70 to 79 year olds.  If you are over 80, only 5 seconds.   The balance test is an indication of general strength, and ability to prevent trips and falls.   Those older people who can balance on their leg for more than 10 seconds are at a "vastly reduced risk of dying within the next decade".  In one of our exercise classes, we stand on one foot and twist from side to side with a weight in our hands in front of us.  I don't think I last much more than 10 seconds on this one.

Here's a picture from the past - this is the next door crab apple tree during an early winter freeze.  Look at how red the apples are.  The tree died this year and is now gone.  It was a special hybrid created by the Flemings - neighbours who were both horticulturalists and hybrizers.  A one-of-a-kind.

Jan 10 20242 - Random Life hacks

Life Hacks.  This is a topic area all over the internet.  Generally hacks refer to doing things cheaper, easier, more efficient, and are not obvious.  For example:

"If the gum is stuck on your hair, use peanut butter to remove it"  - that comes from the website with this table of contents:

  1. 100 Amazing Life Hacks (in Images!)
  2. 100 More Practical Life Hacks to Try
    • Some Good Life Hacks
    • Life Hacks To Do At Home
    • Real Life Hacks
    • Daily Life Hacks
    • Life Hacks To Make Life Easier
    • Everyday Life Hacks
    • Life Hack Examples
    • Helpful Hacks For Making Life Easier
  3. Final Thoughts

I scrolled through the list and they fascinate me.  I did stop at this one:
"Doritos are great for kindling if you can't find any" - I find this hilarious.

There are many fun ideas this very long list HERE.  They are inventive, silly things for one's every day.  There are  odd and unexplainable life hacks for which full instructions are needed.

One can just scroll down to the conclusion of Final Thoughts. Our author says that doing everyday errands again and again can get disappointing.  Easy life hacks handles this.  The author explains that they are stunts to make everyday work simpler.

And wouldn't that make us happier, too.  Who would guess that Life Hacks could be so impactful!  Now to get some gum.

Here's a crab apple tree that hadn't yet suffered from a freeze.  So far, we've had mostly rain, but I'm looking ahead to see what the next "Winter Wallop" forecast will be.
