The Great Arum Titan

The Niagara Falls Greenhouse has 3 specimens of the tallest flower - Arum Titan - growing in the greenhouse.  The last is expected to bloom within the next week so - probably by May 14, 2012!

Here are a few images of this impressive plant.

March Calendar

I found a lovely little calendar template at Shutter Sisters - http://shuttersisters.com/home/2011/11/12/2012-photo-calendar.html.  I put it together with the Niagara Falls Greenhouse images and the Clivia Abstracts.

Niagara Falls Conservatory Greenhouse

Built in 1946, the Niagara Falls Conservatory Greenhouse has 3 major display houses with different temperatures and plantings.  This bench was in the cool greenhouse last week when I was in, with some fresh spring plants going in.  The gardener's bench looks original to the greenhouse, and gardener said it has always been there.

Beautiful Allan Gardens Toronto Canada

While I haven't had a chance to visit Allan Gardens this winter, here are some images from last winter's beautiful display - from the floral wall that I've decorated with textures to the cold greenhouse with azaleas and cyclamens in soothing pinks.

Winter's Garden Blooms

Witch Hazel is a shrub that will bloom on warm days in the winter.  It unfurls its small ribbon flowers in the warmth, and curls them back up when it's cold.

The large witch hazel around the corner from me in Grimsby has been blooming during February, and here are some images from this past week.

Winter's Garden is Subtle

If we look closely, winter's garden is full of delights.  Here are 2 that you can easily experience - the moving grasses as the winter wind blows them, and then fruits and berries on trees and shrubs -bright colours against the darkness of winter.
