Nov 16 2021 - Teal Time

So how does "Marrs green" compare with Teal?  Teal is 0, 128, 128 compared to 0, 140, 140 - that seems very close to me.

Now turquoise seems quite different 48, 214, 200.  Turquoise is not green or blue.  It lies between them and has characteristics associated with both - such as the calmness of blue and the growth that is represented by green.  Turquoise can also have the energy that yellow transmits so is considered an uplifting colour.

And how about cyan?  It is 0, 255, 255.   Here's a lovely quote:  "Cyan is the colour of shallow water over a sandy beach."  The planet Uranus seen from the Voyager 2 spacecraft is cyan because of the clouds of methane gas.

Cyanosis is an abnormal blueness of the skin, usually a sign of poor oxygen intake; patients are typically described as being "cyanotic."

So the picture has Cyan on the top and Turquoise on the bottom - you can see the difference on my screen - whether your screen is colour-correct is another topic.  As I sample around the picture, neither colour seems to be there.  It gives me the sense of turquoise but with a little testing, it turns out the image really does have more blue than green.

Turquoise is the best colour in the world
It is cyantifically proven
It blue my mind
I am purplexed
I red it on the internet

Downhill

Downhill is all about biking. Downhill biking involves more than the downward slope of a hill.  Wikipedia tells me it is about jumps, drops, rock gardens and other obstacles.  Two tapes define the course and the riders compete for the shortest line and time to reach the finish.

I've never seen downhill mountain biking.  There are races all over the world.  Whistler Mountain Bike Park is the best known in Canada and Canada has some well-known mountain bikers.

There's a mountain biking war over illegal mountain bike trails in natural parks and the destruction of natural habitats.  There are many posts about this with site names like rambo-mtb.org, the lumberjack.org, and so on.  It isn't all serious - I found a few mountain bike jokes - most of them are for mountain bike riders, rather than us observers.

When my mountain bike hurts me, I kick it back. It’s a vicious cycle.

Bike pumps seem to get more expensive every year. It’s all that inflation.

What’s the difference between a tricyclist and a well-dressed mountain biker? Attire.

Here is the British view of mountain biking - expressions and their true meanings.

“You looked like you’ve had fun today!” – You look like you’ve eaten a kilogram of mud.

“Nice bike you’ve got there” – I think my bike is better than yours.

“You’ve ridden that trail before?” – Surely you’re not good enough to ride that trail?

“See my fall up there?” – How many of my eight falls did you see?

Our picture today is the swimming pool at the Sacramento hotel.

Sinking - How Big is the Hole Today?

Each day I do a search on news today and the headline "How Big is the Hole Today" came and went in a flash, followed by different news headlines.

I went in search of it.  It was yesterday's news about a sinkhole in Glace Bay, N.S. that is getting bigger every day.  You can see the picture here The article concluded with:
"The owners of the property say the safety of their tenants is their top priority. They added that they plan to hire an expert to get to the bottom of the problem.
A fence is currently in place to keep people from stumbling into the apparent abyss."  Here's the headline:

Apartment residents have sinking feeling they live above bootleg mine ...

The biggest sinkhole ever?

Qattara Depression. The vast Qattara west of Cairo, Egypt is the largest natural sinkhole in the world, measuring 80km long by 120km wide. This dangerous, sludge-filled quicksand pit is unearthly in its appearance and shocking in its size.Aug 26, 2008

Roadside Wonders

Hi everyone,
I was out driving around for the Grimsby Garden Club Trillium Competition.  This wonderful scene was waiting for me on a street on the Lake.  There's a perfect colour match in the garden with the bench, and a complementary garden display between.

If turquoise is more flamboyant than your decor can handle, eBay had an orange 'Turbinator' available.
