July 30 2024 - Scary News

Scary news - this retrieves all things in the horror genre  - movies, tv shows, videos and so on.   If we wanted to, we can check out  the top 20 scariest things caught on live tv.  Or make that the top 15 scary lives news reporting moments, or, or ...  the evil Mickey Mouse movie.

I think poor Mickey lost his copyright protection and in the public domain anything is possible.  So there are a few Mickey Mouse horror movies in production.  The quoted director's intention is "the movie will reinvigorate adults' love for Disney's mascot."

Mickey's Mouse Trap comes out on VOD and digital Aug 6
In the horror comedy thriller, called Mickey's Mouse Trap, a young woman is thrown a surprise birthday party in an amusement arcade - but things quickly take a turn for the worse when she and her friends encounter a knife-wielding murderer in a Mickey costume.

The Mickey in these movies is the Steamboat Willie. "Disney has insisted that more modern versions of Mickey are still covered by copyright."

As you likely recall, Mickey isn't the only one to reach horror status.

“Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” director/producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield previously told IndieWire that despite the viral box office success of his indie horror take on Winnie the Pooh, he has no desire to take on any Mickey Mouse riffs for fear of legal repercussions. Without citing specific films, Frake-Waterfield admitted he “noticed some stuff” on some “Steamboat Willie” takes that “they shouldn’t have done.”

I looked up Walt Disney quotes on Mickey Mouse as I wondered what they might reveal about his relationship with his character.

“When people laugh at Mickey Mouse, it's because he's so human; and that is the secret of his popularity.” - Walt Disney.

This tribute is on the lotus fountain in the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
