The newspaper today tells me that American Eagle sales of jeans soared with the Sydney Sweeney controversial ads. Shares have jumped in value. It is their most successful campaign ever with record numbers of new customers. There's lots of editorial opinion on this with right-wing and conservative notables making the most of the anti-immigration, racist and even pro-eugenic messages in the ad. The polling companies have made lots of money on this too - surveying to find out how the campaign has landed with the American public. An expert put it this way: “Brands can further normal ideas to normal people and not feel bad about it anymore. I suspect brands that have been chasing social justice through advertising, which only served to tank sales, are relieved as well,” she concluded. Her conclusion was that "hotness" sells. And more "hotness" is on the way with their campaigns. Travis Kelce is the other ambassador for their jeans. He's now in the top Royal couple in the U.S. with his engagement to Taylor Swift.
