The New York Times had a headline about winning numbers in the Powerball $1.787 billion lottery. It seems surreal to me that a lottery would be over a billion dollars, while people are still using penny coins. That's a shocking juxtaposition. But then more shocking was the news that Elon Musk is eyeing a trillion dollar paycheque. That's if he achieves his extraordinarily ambitious corporate goals. Is it per year? It includes 12% of Tesla shares which are worth over $1 trillion. I don't think knowing the details and components of the package would help understanding our social order. Or the Tesla board's rationale and explanation. One of the headlines says that Tesla's board has already compensated Musk more than the company earned through its entire existence. That's enough explanation for me.
So there we are in the self-fulfilling prophecy social order. He's predicted to become the world's first trillionaire... by 2027.
The thirteen figure club has a few more potential members:
India’s Gautam Adani, founder of the Adani Group conglomerate. If Adani maintains his recent annual growth rate of 123%, the report says he will be a trillionaire in 2028.
Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, who has seen his wealth skyrocket from $3 billion to more than $90 billion in five years, would become a trillionaire by 2028, according to the report from Information Connect Academy. His wealth would have to continue growing at an average annual rate of 112%. Nvidia’s stock is already up about 115% this year, after more than tripling last year.
Indonesia’s Prajogo Pangestu, founder of the Indonesian energy and mining conglomerate Barito Pacific. The report predicts Pangestu could reach trillionaire status by 2028.
LVMH's Bernard Arnault, who is currently the world’s third-richest person, with just under $200 billion. The report has the luxury king becoming a trillionaire sometime in 2030, along with Mark Zukerberg.
I can still understand a penny. But I still am behind on understanding a billion dollars, let alone a trillion.
