Oct 30 2021 - Adele Before and After

Adele is releasing a new album  - titled 30.  Her last was in 2015 and was titled 25.  Her album 21 became the world's biggest-selling album of the 21st century.  To say she's a leading artist with many awards is a factual understatement. She's the composer of Skyfall, the James Bond film music.

But what is the big story that everyone wants to talk about?   Her weight loss which got noticeable in 2019.   It is significant - 100 lbs over two years.

Health experts are 'wading in' over her diet and exercise regime.  This gets them lots of attention.  The Daily Mail in the UK is representative of the kinds of coverage she's gotten:

"Why does Adele's face look SO different following her weight loss? Expert reveals how slimming makes the skin lose volume and the eyes and nose become more prominent
  • Exclusive: Aeshetic expert  revealed how Adele's reported seven stone weight changed her face by allowing her features to become more prominent
  • Leading aesthetics trainer Dr Chike said the loss of volume affects your features
  • Dietician Kate Llewellyn-Waters explained her retained glow could be a result of a nutrient dense diet packed with antioxidants, high in anti-inflammatory foods
  • Adele reportedly lost seven stone on the 'green juice and 1000 calories-a-day"

"Adele has lost the roundness around the cheeks and the jaw line, her features are more sharp and angular - charactersitic signs of a loss of facial volume and fat.

Her crow's feet have become more pronounced and her nasolabial folds have become deeper - these are all the signs of major weight loss. "

Vogue's coverage has a self-help theme:  Adele's 7 weight loss secrets uncovered as she reveals truth behind her transformation. I appreciate the last one:  ignore the critics.

You can find lots of lots of pictures of her both ways - she's extremely photogenic with a kind of glow.

Here are the two Finalists in the Betterphoto contest for September.  We'll see if they get any further.  The winners get announced the last day of the month.

Mar 3 2020 - The Moneyless Man

The Moneyless Man hit the news in 2010.  He is Mark Boyle, the founder of Freeconomy Community and the author of The Moneyless Man.  In an update in 2015,  he says it was to be a one-year experiment in ecological living.  It is said he started this on Buy Nothing Day, November 28th. At the end of the first year, he found himself "more content, healthier, and at peace".  He has gone on to lead many initiatives in this area. He is known as an activist and writer.

German Heidemarie Schwermer decided in her early 50s to leave her job as a psychotherapist and live money-free.  This has been documented in the film "Living Without Money."  She too decided to live one year without money.  "I only wanted to try to do an experiment and in that year, I noticed a new life," she said. "I didn't want to go back to the old life."

"Her schedule is pretty strict. After a week, she's off to somewhere new, usually running the lecture circuit at speaking engagements around Europe and lately helping to promote her documentary. The only payment she accepts, however, is enough to cover her train fare. "I'm always thinking how I could make things better for life in the world," she says. "I am something like a peace pilgrim. I go from house to house sharing my philosophy."

You can go to moneyless.org HERE. for all kinds of topics. The website is a social and experimental online project by Robino and Guaka about money and the disposal of that.  There's a motto on the site:
Less is more
Nothing
is better

Whither the Worms

Spring will happen tomorrow at 5:58pm, and that night there will be a full moon, and it will be a supermoon.  Our chances of a good viewing of March's full moon, called the Full Worm Moon, are considered poor.  Supposedly the name of the Full Worm Moon comes from the ground softening enough for earthworm casts to reappear, inviting robins and birds to feed, a true sign of spring - this from the Old Farmer's Almanac.

The first Almanac wouldn't have had this information, it was published in 1792.  That was before earthworms came to North America.

There are only two native worms in Ontario, although there are 19 known species.  That makes 17 varieties of invasive worms. The 'earthworms' we are familiar with arrived from Asia and Europe about two hundred years ago in the ballast of ships.  A square meter of soil can support 2,000 worms.  Studies are finding that they are predators of native seeds. They 'devour' the leaf litter layer much more rapidly than native decomposers.  Our native plants and insects rely on a thick protective layer of decaying leaves.

Here are a few worm jokes:

What do you call it when worms take over the world?

Global Worming!

Two silk worms challenged each other in a race
It ended in a tie.

What's the difference between Donald Trump and a worm?

One of them is a slimy, loathsome creature incapable of complex thought, the other one actually shows up when it rains.

This Donald Trump joke popped up along the way:

A man died one day and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.
He asked, "What are all those clocks?"
St. Peter replied, "Those are lie clocks. Everyone on earth has a lie-clock. Every time you lie the hands on the clock will move."
"Oh," said the man as he pointed at one of them, "Whose clock is that?"
St. Peter replied, "That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"That's incredible, " said the man.
St. Peter pointed to another clock, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe only told two lies in his entire life."
The man was impressed, and then asked, "Where's Donald Trump's clock?"
St. Peter said, "His clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

Parched Point of View

What is the answer to this question: when something shrivels up and loses its moisture, are the patterns and shapes similar whether it is parched earth or peeling decals on transport trucks and dumpsters.  So I took a quick look through 'dry lake bed aerial photography'.  The site that had really interesting aerial images is amusing planet.com

Along the way to finding those images this headline from 2013 got my attention:  "Abraham Lincoln Lookalikes Gather for a Convention in Ohio."
