There's something about the pyramids. Maybe it is that they are the only existing wonder of the ancient world. And there are so many questions about the pyramids that experts want to answer.
Yesterday Egypt's antiquities authorities ( they are from the supreme council of antiquities!) unveiled a newly discovered chamber and corridor using scanning technology. This is at the pyramid built by Khufu.
Just in time for tourist season. Authorities often publicly announce discoveries to attract more tourists, a major source of foreign currency for this country. The Scan Pyramids project, an international program that uses scans to look at unexplored sections of the ancient structure, was credited for the find. Experts are divided over how the pyramids were constructed, so even relatively minor discoveries generate great interest. This tunnel is behind the main entrance to the pyramid superstructure - the location of the Queen and King's chamber.
The scanning projects must be a significant big business. Tourism is listed as accounting for 11 percent of the country's annual gross domestic product - in 2014. In 2019 revenues hit $13 billion, the highest in history. Onward scanning technologies! I've looked at the two week forecast and it looks like a wintery landscape. So for now, I will post those delightful pictures of the RBG conservatory spring display.
